Pallets · Boulders & drystack
Boulders, basalt bowls and drystack stone in Yakima
Basalt boulders and carved basalt bowls, turquoise quartzite, rainbow cobble in baskets, and Stampede and Silver Strike garden ledge for dry-stacked walls and borders.
Chapter 01
Set a boulder so it looks like it was always there
A boulder looks natural when it looks planted rather than placed. The usual landscaper advice is to bury roughly a third of the stone, tilt it a little into the slope instead of sitting it flat on top of the soil, and group stones in odd numbers and mixed sizes rather than lining them up like fence posts. A boulder set too high tends to read as a lump someone dropped on the lawn.
The front row of our display yard is the same basalt boulder we sell. Dark, rounded and heavy, it sits in a river rock bed beside the columns and the stamped apron, and you can walk up and judge the colour and the scale against your own height before you commit to one. A Basalt Boulder is on the bin list, and so are Small Basalt Rocks on a pallet for the places where one big stone would be too much.
Turquoise Quartzite Small Boulders are the other direction: a lighter stone with turquoise and pink running through it, which works as a single accent beside a path rather than as part of a cluster.

Garden ledge for a dry-stacked border
Stampede Garden Ledge and Silver Strike Garden Ledge come by the pallet, and Large Drystack comes by the pallet as well, with the forklift sitting right behind it in the photo. Dry stack means no mortar: the stones sit on each other by weight and by how well you fit them, which is why it suits low borders, raised beds and the edge of a flower bed.
A dry-stacked course typically starts on a compacted bed of crushed base rock, set a little below the finished grade so the first row cannot roll out. Our gravel bins carry the base rock for that, and the gravel page lists what we stock. Keep a dry-stack border low. Once you want a wall that holds back a slope, the precast World Block system is built for that load.
Rock colour matters more than people expect, because a pallet photographed in the sun looks different from the same stone in your shade. Come to the yard and pick the pallet by eye.
Chapter 03
Basalt bowls, quartzite and rainbow baskets
Carved Basalt Bowls sit out on the gravel in the yard, and a bowl can serve as the basin under a basalt column fountain or as a planted bowl on a patio. If you want water running through one, the water features page covers the columns, pond liner and lighting that go with it.
The 6"-10" Rainbow cobble comes in a wire basket, a Montana Rainbow stone that is easy to move by hand and easy to place around a boulder or along the edge of a bed. If you would rather buy the smaller round cobble, 2"-6" round cobble sells by the yard from the bin and can work as a dry creek bed.
Heavy pieces are one phone call. Tell us what you want and where it goes, and we will talk through delivery by forklift or whether a truck load of cobble is the better answer.

Moving big stone · Forklift and loader
Big stone does not ride in a wheelbarrow
In the yard, a truck-mounted forklift carries boulders across the gravel, and a yellow wheel loader stands basalt columns upright. The same forklift rides our flatbed, which is how a boulder gets from our yard to your lawn without anyone lifting it by hand.
Delivery is priced on the round trip mileage from the yard. When you call, mention the gate width, whether the ground is soft or sloped, and how close the truck can get to the spot. A forklift needs a clear path, and that one conversation settles most of it.

These are the prices posted in our online store. Basalt boulders are delivery only, and the Montana Rainbow cobble is sold by the basket. The round cobble is by the yard, so ask us how many yards cover your bed before you order.
Garden ledge, drystack, bowls and quartzite are stocked in the yard but not posted in the store, so call for those, or send the yard a message.
