World Block retaining walls in Yakima

560 lb singles and 1,600 lb triples, light enough to set with a skid steer, with a one-inch setback every course and tapered sides for curves down to a 6 foot radius.

Chapter 01

Big enough for demanding walls, small enough for a skid steer

World Blocks come in two weights. Each single block weighs approximately 560 pounds and each triple block 1600 pounds, which makes them light enough to be handled with a skid steer.

The 3 Across block is 6' L x 2' D x 1' H, so one lift places six feet of wall length. The single is 2' L x 2' D x 1' H. Most straight runs are typically built from these two sizes.

A one-inch setback every course, and curves to a 6 foot radius

World Blocks are designed with a one-inch setback on every course, so the wall leans back into the earth it is retaining. That lean is what the system relies on for added strength and stability.

The blocks also have tapered sides, which lets you build a curved wall with a radius as tight as 6 feet, measured to the back of the block. Typically that is enough to swing a wall around a planting bed or the corner of a terrace.

Chapter 03

Corners, half blocks and caps finish the wall

The yard also carries corners, half blocks and caps. Corners turn a wall, half blocks are what you reach for when a run needs to end on a clean edge or the joints need to be staggered, and caps close the top course.

The photos below show the system holding ground three ways: along a Yakima street, on a new-build lot, and stepped up a grassy slope. For block availability and how the blocks get to your site, call the yard before you plan the wall.

Soracco, 31 W Washington Ave, Yakima. Open to the public since 2008.

These are the figures the yard lists for the World Block system. Corners, half blocks and caps complete it.
