Fire pits and fire bowls

RumbleStone square and round fire pit kits and fire glass. Light up your life with a Beautiful Fire Bowl or Pit!

Chapter 01

RumbleStone kits, square or round

The yard sells RumbleStone fire pit kits in two shapes: the Square Fire Pit and the Round Fire Pit. A kit is the simple way in, since the pieces are made to fit each other and you are not hunting for matching stone one block at a time.

Square tends to sit tidy against a straight patio edge or a house wall. Round suits a circle of chairs, because everyone is the same distance from the heat. Pick the shape that matches how your seating will actually be arranged.

Ask at the counter what comes in a given kit and what you still need to bring, such as base rock under it.

Fire glass, if you want a flame without the ash

FIREGLASS is on the yard's list next to the kits. Fire glass is a crushed glass that people typically use in a gas fire feature in place of logs, and it gives the flame a bright, even bed to burn through.

Whether it suits your pit depends on how the pit is fueled, so check before you buy. A wood fire and a gas burner call for different setups, and the yard can tell you what they carry for each.

If you are building a bowl rather than a pit, the same question applies: what feeds the flame decides what goes inside it.

Chapter 03

Siting a pit on pavers

Most people set a fire pit on a flat, firm surface such as a paver patio or a bed of compacted base rock, a good distance from the house, fences and anything overhead. Level matters, because a rocking pit is an annoying one.

Clearances differ from town to town and sometimes by season, so check your city's burn rules and any rules from your insurance or HOA before you build. The yard cannot tell you what your address allows.

Pavers, edgestones and polymeric sand all come from the same yard, so a pit and the patio under it can be one trip.

What the yard lists for fire

Four lines on the yard's list. Stock moves, so a quick call confirms what is on the ground today.

After dark · Paver patio

A lit pit is what makes a patio get used in the evening

This is a paver patio at dusk with a lit fire pit, a cedar pergola and block seat walls. The pit anchors the space, and the seat walls and pavers around it come from the same kind of material the yard stocks.

Start with the surface, then the seating, then the fire. Working in that order keeps the pit from ending up wherever the leftover space was.
