Pallets · Flagstone & veneer

Flagstone, patio stone and veneer by the pallet in Yakima

Gold Rush, Silver Strike, Sockeye, Montana Stampede and Cowboy Coffee by the pallet, set next to your project by our truck-mounted forklift.

Chapter 01

Patio stone, tumbled stone and veneer are different jobs

The yard stocks flagstone in several forms, and the thickness is on the pallet list: the patio pallets run 1 1/2" to 2". Montana Stampede, Gold Rush, Cowboy Coffee and Silver Strike come as patio stone, flat pieces you walk on. Sockeye is stocked as flagstone and as 2" Sockeye Tumbled, and Silver Strike Patio also comes tumbled.

Tumbled stone has had its edges knocked down, so it reads softer and older underfoot than a cut or natural edge, which suits a cottage garden or a path beside a bed. Natural-edge patio stone suits a larger sitting area where you want the pattern of the stone to do the work.

Veneer is the third kind. Gold Rush 3/4 minus Veneer is sold in crates and is typically used for facing a wall rather than for walking on, so ask us before you order it for a patio.

Bedding a flagstone patio so it stays flat

Flagstone stays flat for the same reason any paving does: what is under it. Typically that means excavating below the finished height, compacting a layer of crushed base rock, then a leveling layer of sand, and setting each stone with a rubber mallet until it sits without rocking. Thicker stone is generally more forgiving than thin stone, and the 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch patio pallets are the ones to ask about for a walking surface.

Joints are a choice. Tight joints give you a more formal surface, wide joints can be filled with sand or planted, and a sand joint should be topped up as it settles. Polysweep is on our paver shelf and stabilizes joint sand.

The base rock and the sand come out of our bins, so a patio can be picked up in one trip once the pallet is on its way. Our gravel and sand pages list what we stock, and the yard staff can walk you through how much of each.

Chapter 03

Pallets delivered next to the work

A pallet of stone is heavy and awkward to move any distance. Our promise, in the words on our own site: “We Can Deliver to your home with our forklift and as long as we can access the work area we will be able to set the pallets next to your project, Saving you labor and time.”

Access is the one condition. Before you order, look at the route from the street to the spot: gate width, slope, soft lawn, anything the forklift would have to pass. Tell us on the phone and we will say whether the pallets can go right beside the project or need to be set at the curb.

Soracco, 31 W Washington Ave, Yakima. Open to the public since 2008.

Walk the pallets · Pick by eye

Choose the pallet in the yard, not from a catalogue

Flagstone is a natural material, and no two pallets match. Colour shifts from stone to stone, and a small photo flattens all of it. The pallets stand in rows at the back of the yard, banded and stacked, so you can walk down them, look at the edges and the thickness, and see the colour in daylight.

There are no store prices posted for flagstone, so the price is a phone call: (509) 469-3836. Hours depend a lot on the weather, so call before you drive out if it is questionable.

The pallets with photos are the yard’s own pictures of its own stock. The ones without a photo are on the shelf too, so ask for them by name.

Delivery · Forklift

Saving you labor and time

“We Can Deliver to your home with our forklift and as long as we can access the work area we will be able to set the pallets next to your project, Saving you labor and time.”

That is how the yard describes its own delivery. The flatbed carries the pallets and the forklift rides on the back, so the stone is set down beside the job instead of at the end of the driveway. Delivery is priced on the round trip mileage from the yard.

The full fleet, from the dump trucks to the mixer, is on the delivery page.
